Waycool, I take it you are trying to find a way around an ordinance? I don't suggest trying it. Everyone gets caught eventually and it leads to lots of stress for the owners, their families and the birds. Jenn Lynn on this board just got caught after having her birds for years.

Well, I have about 15 roos, no wait, make that 18. The coops are close to the house but unless you are standing inside of the coop the noise is not over powering when they get in to crowing duels.

Something to consider about locating your coops a long ways from the main house, water and power. During the winter when you have to tote waterers back & forth because the ones in the coop are frozen is a pita. Power, I never thought it was going to be a problem not having it. Not until our temps were hovering near 110 all Summer and I had to run extension cords to keep my birds alive with fans. My new coop now has both. I can also set up lights for early hatch chicks, birds that are bit off but don't need to be brought in.

Having my coops closer to the house has other advantages, some predators are more leery about approaching when the dogs are obviously on the property. You are alerted to trouble in the coop because you can hear them.

And your company might get a kick out of hearing the boys dueling to see who has the best crow.

I have Silkies so the outlet thing isn't that big of a deal. They're mounted four feet off the floor, well out of the reach of curious beaks. But you can purchase child guard covers that only open when in use.

The fans were a kick. I had one up high doing more to keep the air moving than anything else, two down low on the N. side of the coop drawing air in. No one messed with the fans. More than once I went in to find the flock hunkered down right in the wind generated by the fans. I had one loss out of about 80 birds and I'm not sure that was due to the heat because I rarely saw any of them panting.
