Walter has some friends.. |
Lead | ||
|
As some of you may remember, a Pigeon dropped in the other day and has made his/her home here. I felt Walter needed a friend and was able to find two birds
from a very nice young man on the other side of the state. We had a nice little 3 hour road trip today and brought two beautiful Roller Pigeons home. After
getting them here, I find that Walter may be a roller but he is a bit different. He has very dark eyes and seems shaped a bit differently. He/She will enjoy
the company none the less and as time goes by I can learn more about the hobby of flying Rollers. How great is that, something new is always just around the
corner.

Jaynie, did you go all the way to their house? You must have three hours would have taken you almost to the west side of the state. I'm glad to here your
new resident has some friends. There is another breed that very similar to the roller but I can't remember what it is. They had some at the show in
Lawrenceburg last year. It might have been the tumbler, that sounds familiar to me.

Hey Robin, I met them about 1/2 mile from the fairgrounds in Muscle Shoals. I knew how to get there. There is a Tumbler and I am not sure if Watler is more
like one of those. I need to study a bit to determine the differences. They sure are pretty. I have Walter with the little Girl and the Big boy is cooing to
them both. I am not sure what that means yet. Walter is a bit on edge right now but he is coping. Phillip was a very nice boy.

Pigeons are very big here in Holland... but please do take care when cleaning up after them and do wear a dust mask... there is a respiratory illness that
often gets the best of even the most tediously clean hobbyists here and it is quite nasty...so do take precautions....once you have it , it can be controlled
but never cured.

Thanks for the heads up Diana. I have them in wire cages and clean out dropping daily along with the chickens. It is just easier to keep up with it rather
than a huge cleaning job after a period. I would imaging that will help me in coming down with any illness as there is not much dust to consider. Once I get
the hutch I am planing to use then I will make sure to wear a mask when cleaning it out it will be more enclosed and dust will collect more easily. There is a
forum I found called Pigeon Talk and there are people from around the world on there too and I noticed someone from Holland. That really makes it fun.

This one is for you SC, This is Walter. I have not taken photos of the Two new ones, Willow is the girl and Mr. Roy (long story) is the other boy. It turns
out Walter is a little boy Pigeon and he was cooing to Willow yesterday.

I wonder who he escaped from. Or maybe someone got tired of pigeons and let several out and this is the result. No way do you see a bird like that out in the
wild. So here we are, another adventure to follow.

What a gorgeous boy Walter is, it took me awhile also to assimilate the name! Once my sister brought home an injured pigeon and nursed him back to health in
their house. When she decided to turn him loose, he thought different! She would take him outside and run back into the house, but their door closer hesitated
just enough for the pigeon to slip back inside! Julie

I have asked at the feed store if they know anyone with Pigeons and they don't. I agree he is a very special bird and he was amazingly tame so he had to
have come from someones loft. He seems young to me so they may have just been trying to give his some flight time and he go lost. If he had a band I would
definitely try to return him. Most breeders band when very young so the owner may have been new at it also.
That is funny Julie, he know where the bread and butter was. LOL |

Walter must have gotten your address from somebody that knew you would fix him up with a neat pad and new friends. Walter's got your number!

Walter is beautiful, and lucky to have found you before something ate him!
Looks like he could be a mix of a couple different breeds... His round-ish head reminds me of an English Long face Tumbler

He probably would have been happier if you only brought Willow home for him, and not have to compete with Mr. Roy
Welcome to the world of pigeons!

Groverguy, If I had only know he was a boy, I would have only brought Willow. Mr Roy is in his own cage and will have a mate before long as well. They
sure are nice. I love the sound. Both boys are cooing now so it is fun when I go out there. I know poor Mr. Roy.
The picture of the birds are just beautiful, such nice colors. Thanks |

Pigeon...I wouldn't eat a pigeon, too much work for not enough meat.
