6 week old chicks, boys or girls? |
Lead | ||
|
I have 9 chickens that are 6 weeks old, I thought I knew which ones were boys and which were girls but now they all seem to have combs and I am afraid they are
all boys. I really do not know the breeds and I think a few are probably mixes. Have any ideas? I really can't keep more then one roo so most of the boys
will need to find new homes as soon as possible. Sorry for the bad pics, I can take more if it will help.

Pic two probably a boy. Pic 8, girl. It appears the feathers are rounded at the end. The male will have a more pointed feather.
Most birds will have combs of one size or another so that won't be the only thing you check. Most its the hackles and saddle feathers. Silkies its the sweep of the head feathers and stance. |

I'm not familiar with the other breeds and what to look for. The two I mentioned I've either had or still have. Pic five looks like some sort of sizzle
or its because the pic is too close. Shots taken a little further away to catch the body will help with identifying for anyone who passes through and knows the
other breeds better.
Pic 7 could also be a girl. Just can't tell and its probably too soon for some of the breeds. |

My guesses......#2--silkie, #6--possibly sultan, #8--polish, #1,4,7--something crossed with a crested...not sure about the others. Body pics would show how the
birds stand since breeds stand differently.
Are these bantams or standard? |

Oh they all are so precious and beautiful! However, I strongly believe #8 is the ONLY ONE girl. The rest look so much like roosters. Sorry!

8 was the only one I wasn't sure about the gender. The rest I would guess are boys.

Are these chicks from my eggs I sent? They sure look familar! The ones with the topknots would be buff-laced Polish mixes. Others look like OEGBs and
Chantecler mixed. They are all cuties!

#8 polish looks like a female. The rest, unless it is your camera, are showing red in the combs and wattles much too early to be girls. Ouch!
