I had this chick about 5 weeks old with mom & 2 siblings, well something grabbed it between 3 and 5 pm and I found it under the barn at 6pm where it
couldn't have gotten itself as I have it sealed off with hardware cloth.
SpottedCrow will be kind enough to post the picture below for me. It didn't appear so I figured it out and here it is but thanks anyway.
The predator obviously
didn't eat it and I have 72 adults and several youngsters in that barn group and everyone else was OK. This was about 2 weeks ago and so far since
everyone is fine. The mom, Peanut, is an experienced good mom so I am puzzled. There are groundhogs under there but I don't think they did it. They are
always digging new holes or ....someone else is.
Earlier in the summer I found a young dead baby groundhog in the same spot. There was a bunny with an injured neck like... where your double chin would be... and the day after the chick was killed I found the bunny had died and was just dead in the grass not near where I found the chick. Probably no relation unless something is going for the throat during the day.
Any insight? Thanks much group.
