Posts: 1 11/06/08 06:36 PM	Please ignore my amused goofy voice in the vid =P. This rooster showed up in my backyard about 3 weeks ago. No one has claimed him and i've asked around. I've grown quite attached to him and am building a coop and run. I've started putting out water and he's doing a good job of eating bugs but I'm going to a feed store tomorrow. I've read it's ok to feed him just scratch but am open to be advised otherwise. He's really skittish so I don't know how to get him to trust me or how I'll get him in the coop and run once it's finished. Any advise there would be great also. Thinking of getting a hen or two also, but I'd like to know what breed he is first.� He looks like a Partridge Rock to me but his tail is so long.� All the pics i see online though don't show a tail as long.� There was another breed it looked similar too but the feet, beak, and under ear section is not white on Rodney as the other breed described/showed. Thanks in advance for any help!

"Rodney the rooster" looks like a Standard Game,Black Breasted Red variety (BB Red) Take a look at this http://www.cacklehatchery...m/oldenglishgamepage.html most of them in these pictures have been dubbed (comb/wattles removed) But they have that long tail that Rodney has. To get Rodney into your pen, I'd get another chicken (preferably a hen) and put it in a cage inside the pen, when Rod goes in to investigate, slam the gate shut! Once he's caught, you'll be able to tame the beast down... Good luck

Posts: 672 11/08/08 07:51 AM	That video made me chuckle! I would also assume that he is a game of some sort. He is a nice looking bird and like Grover said, getting him penned will definately help settle him a little bit, but it is going to take work!

Posts: 1749 11/08/08 10:31 AM	I'd throw him alittle scratch around and in the pen where you want him. Getting a hen or two first is a great idea, that will get his attention. I agree with the others of what breed he is. ~ ~ Buff, Blue/Black/Splash Orpingtons, Black Orpingtons and Light Brahmas ~ ~

Posts: 2 11/09/08 09:46 AM	hello, and thanks for the input! sorry i haven't replied back so soon. i found the non yuku backyard chickens forum. kinda confused why there's 2 for one site but oh well. he ate right next to me yesterday when i threw out some canned corn after chasing off a cat. the coop is done and now i'm working on the run. i was just going to see if i could lure him in with corn or some scratch while i sit in the back of the run. i'd have a string already tied to the door. when he walks in i'll pull it then walk out myself. i have found a lady off of craigslist with a farm not to far from me. she just started hatching her own and pulled some eggs specifically for it yesterday, in 21 days they'll hatch then she'll raise them to 18 weeks for me for $7 each. that's so i won't have to mess with different feeds lol. i'm going to purchase two maybe three. i can't believe how cheap everything is to keep poultry! they are rhode island red hens. so i'll b waiting till march if i go through her =/ cool thing is she has a blog and i'll be able to watch them grow up lol. the other forum thinks he's an american gamecock as well. his legs are bright yellow and his ears are all red so i think he's either a yellow legged hatch or a wheaten. both are very similar, but he's a younging (spurs seem nubby) so he'll fill out even more by next year i'm told. anyway, if you like to see the whole ordeal in finer detail there is 4 pages of goodness after this link =) thanks again for the replies!!!
