What is going on? |

Maybe i missed something. I was googling for info this morning and found 'backyard chickens' as having the answer to my question, but when i tried to
log in, it kept telling me i had the wrong user name/password. (and the site looked different, but i know websites change, and i didn't recognize many
people posting, but people do get busy with their real lives, so i kind of ignored that stuff.) Since i was too lazy to go look up my password, i just
continued with my day. Later, I had an email note about a response to a message i posted before, so i followed the link, and found myself here, also called
Backyard Chickens. So why are there two sites with the same name?

There are several threads in the archive section about it... Yuku didnt turn out to be the big booboo we thought (and now it is run by kickapps which is pretty
reliable)...
so no...no joking. Several members post at both locations but for many of us this still feels more like "home" *clicks heels and says " ...theres no place like home...." * |

Not to worry, the new BYC has been around for almost two years. Many of us just like to hang around here because it is not nearly as busy and it just feels
like home. Zoomom, not sure how you got a response to a post on the other BYC and you ended up here but I am glad you got your answer. This board is no
longer connected with the Website Backyard Chickens so there is not much in the way of basic information available. We are always glad to help where we can,
however.

I know, it's confusing, but I found the other site yesterday, and couldn't log in. (I thought it was this site, with new graphics) Later that day i
received an email response to a thread I posted here a few weeks ago, followed the link, and I could log in, no problem, and that was when i realized there
were two BYC sites.
I used to be a regular 'here' (with Wes and Dlhunicorn and many many others) and I remember alot of the names i see here now. I did get busy with life, and the whole switchover to Yuku turned me off (I hate being forced to change) so i rarely came around. That must be how i missed the whole 'buy out' thing. Then i started back here a few months ago. The only reason i ended up there was that i was searching for info on how to stop my roos from harassing the hens - i vaguely recall someone mentioning a 'bachelor pad' at one point a long time ago, and wanted to see how feasible that would be. My Maran roos are twice as big as the hens and really tear up their feathers. My Arucauna roo was always a gentleman with his ladies. On top of the feather mite problem i had, the roos were too much. I also have several Americauna roos (4) that ended up in my batch of all pullets. (this was the worst ratio I ever rec'd - 5 roos out of 25) They are a bit precocious and starting to bother the pullets, although the Arucauna keeps them in line pretty well. I ended up putting the Marans in a new pen i built (they are NOT happy), and reducing the Americauna roos by 2. I need to do some more switching around soon, b/c my Arucauna is getting up there in years, and i want some babies out of him - it is too hard to find true arucaunas anymore (unless someone knows someone? I got this one out of a hatch i did awhile ago with some eggs from Tennessee, and now the guy is mia) Glad to be back, and thanks for the explanation. |

I've got bachelor pens, like you noticed the boys are not happy. They want to be back with their parents but dang, they're as big as their parents now.
So far so good, not sure that will work much longer since mine are not in a seperate building. Just have to wait and see. Like you I'm over run with little
boys and not near enough girls for them.

I have plenty of girls, they are just too darn big. I hate to get rid of them, on the off chance i want to breed my own. I made another bachelor pen today for
the 2 Americaunas (so much for my 'all pullet' order, i had 4 roos!) They are still too young to care about being separated from the girls - more
nervousness at being in a new pen i think. The two marans seem a little more settled now. I figure if i lavish enough attention on them, they will be a little
nicer also.

Well, yeah! The members getting fed up trying to follow it around. If this place were a retail business that kept locking the door during business hours, it wouldn't be very busy, either, would it? Sue |
