Hawk is back to our land now! Its the time of year! And good enought, it has killed many of our chickens! GRRR! I know its impossible to keep hawk away when I
want chicken to be free ranged. But is there any thing that help keep hawk away somehow? I know one way is to get fake owls. I just got them. Waiting to see if
they actually works some. I have heard of fake owl that moves its head by wind. Where could I find them at? Any other way? Help please!

It may depend on your definition. Some people are calling rolling pens "free range". Honestly, unless you just like raising snacks for critters and
mis-dirrected pets, I am inclined to agree with them. I have seen way too many birds disappear and leave only a pile of feathers. I have problems of my own,
today. A partridge rock just got her hips picked to the bone by her own kind. They didn't even pause in their murder attempt, after I sprayed her with
purple wound protector as soon as I noticed the problem this morning. Guess, I'll have to look up some pine tar. For the next one, looks like it's
too late for her. Tim in Ind.

In my own definition of "Free Ranged" is when they are free to go all over the yard instead of staying inside their own Pen or cage. Free Ranged
aniamls have more chance of being hunted by others than those ones in pen or cage. But I really prefer my chickens be a Free Ranged chickens. Which is why Im
seeking for any ideas on how to do Hawk Proof. OF course, we cant do 100 percent hawk proof with free ranged chickens. But make them less chance going to them
is better than NONE.
 I have set up two fake owls already. But am still in searching of those ones with its head moving from wind.

Gave my Dad, maybe 30 call ducks, and chickens. The only survivors were the 8 pened hens and the call duck drakes who didn't go to land to lay eggs in
secluded spots. The coyote culpret eventually was eliminated, but he has family! There is always some opertunist waiting to take your animals out to lunch.
Experience has brought me to my opinion. We have predators in even the most urban areas anymore. They have adapted to survive. I had to adapt my ideas in
order for my birds to survive. Thanks, Tim

The only thing you can really do is keep them penned up. Once the Hawks realize they no longer have a free, easy meal they move on to greener pastures. Crows
help keep hawks away. I know that we have a ton of Red Tails in the area but we also have crows. Have only had the one Red Tail attempt in several years.

Yeah, but it turned out that that same hawk is the mother to newly chick in her large nest where is inside of an acre where my house is! So, that explains
everything. I have penned my chickens and guienas up. Boy, they werent SO HAPPY about it. I know they are MAD at me. I feel bad!!!
