I don't know what the attraction is with pellet guns, but they are absolutely worthless for predator control.
If you think you need a gun, get a GUN! A .22 rifle or .22 handgun is fine. Take a gun safety class, learn how to use it properly, and load it with hollow point ammunition.
It makes me grind my teeth when I read about people who find a raccoon or opossum or fox in their coop and "run for the pellet gun". Why bother? Is all you're wanting to do is torture the animal? Shoot it so it takes a couple of weeks to die?
