Oh dear, I am afraid I have messed up. I was at our local fair where for the first time I didn't win above class. My New Hampshire Reds weren't even
considered (I was the clerk-I had to bit my tongue as he passed them 3 times to see others) After the show I asked him about the problem with the Reds. He said
age and coloration, another man walking close to the cages made a smart remark out loud about "whoever entered these birds didn't even know what a New
Hampshire Red was"! A little frustrated already I fired back. He commented that they black ends on the hackels where a disqualifier for the breed. I asked
him in a now regretable tone if he was familiar with the SOP. He said yes very, and I told him to take another look. Feeling very PROUD of myself for his
rebuke I double checked and sure enough the black hackels are there on the pullets/hens. However, another administrator there brought a much older SOP (early
80's, mine is 2001) and I'll be a suck egg mule the hens had NO Black ends on their hackels....
so a little research and I have found 2 DIFFERENT STANDARDS..... I want
to raise them and I want to raise the correct ones........Please someone help me......which is correct.
The two standards:
1)
2)
The roos are exact, but that's a BIG difference in the females, AND I have 1/2 of one kind and 1/2 the other....
any help will be appreciated.............
