Any ideas on how to keep my chicken coops clean. Would love to hear on how everyone cleans their chicken coops and runs and keeps them clean

I must admit to being not too clean with it. I clean it but not as often as I think I should. The chicken don't seem to be suffering too much from it, so I
can't be doing too badly.
Still, years ago, in England, my family had a smaller coop in our garden that me and my dad would clean every week, on a Sunday. Take all the old wood chip out, scraping some of it up and put new wood chip in. I remember we used wood chip instead of straw because, we were told, that straw could harbour more parasites. |

I'm afraid there is nothing but a good cleaning for keeping a coop looking good. I do mine about once a month. Everything is removed, the coop is sprayed
and new bedding is put down.

What do you use to spray your coop? Do you ever use diatomaceous earth?

Tess wrote: I use permerthrins to spray my coop. It in a concentrate at the feed store, I mix it according to package for using it as a premise spray. There are also directions for using it on the birds for mites. Since it is an oil base I don't use it on my birds. No, I don't use DE. In the hot humid states it just doesn't make sense to waste the money on it. I have sand pits for my birds to dust bathe in, that's enough to keep the mites at bay most of the time. |
