2 words, treat and patience, lots of both! Mine will jump through a hoop for plain old bread, they soon learn that 'Here Chickies' or what ever you call, means treats. Sitting quietly will pay rewards also and before you know it, you walk out of the house and every chicken on the place comes at a dead run. The only two that will sit on my lap are my hand raised chicks, but the others will be underfoot. Welcome! Julie

Start with them in some enclosed space and gently toss pieces of bread, raisins, black oil sunflower seeds, those are some of the things mine like the best. Sit quietly on a bucket and talk to them. Don't overload on the treats, it's supposed to be a treat. Do this as often as you want, they will settle and start to come close. Never grab a chicken, it doesn't hurt to reach down and try to gently stroke, but grabbing is a no-no, they hate that. As they get bolder, make them come to you for the treat, hold it in your hand. It will probably take time but you will also get to know your chickens well. Have fun with them! Julie
