HI all, I am new here and DH just finished building our coop yesterday. I have a question, we have been keeping out baby chicks in a rubbermaid container, and they seemed to have gotten them selves rather dirty, poop all over their breasts. Can I use a warm damp rag and wipe them off. I am worried about them getitng sick from it, They are about 3 weeks old,a s far as we can tell. We sure have alot to learn about chickens.LOL.
We used pine chips at first and then my son said to switch to hay as their bedding, it would be cheaper. Is this just as good as the pine shavings? We live in central fl. We have 2 sets of chicks, one batch is 5-6 weeks, which we hope we did right and we put them in the new coop yesterday in a breeder box, with a heat lamp and a hole in the front of the box so they could get out and roam and the other batch are about 3 weeks and they are still inside the house in a rubbermaid container with a heat lamp.
My son gave up 2 laying hens and 7 , 5 week old chicks, we think we have too many now. We have a coop that is 8x12. and we now have 34 chicks and 2 laying hens, do we need to expand ? hubby will build them a outside run but for now, its just the coop.
thanks for your help
