Can anyone direct me to the thread, or tell me how YOU do it? I'm getting some eggs mailed to me and the seller has never mailed eggs before. I liked the detail of the explainations and pics that were posted in that link.

Here's a link to Silkiesrus on how she does her own eggs. I don't use the egg cartons & package with newspapers, etc & wrap the eggs in quilt batting or bubblewrap. I usually use the quilt batting in the winter to help keep the eggs warmer. I also sometimes use packaging peanuts instead of newspaper if I have it.

very nice...what is her sucess rate at eggs arriving safely? The batting would work so much better than wrapping each egg in bubble wrap. That makes it hard to close the carton.

Here's what I do. I wrap each egg individulaly with bubble wrap and place them in the carton. I cut the lid of the carton off and place it on top of the eggs and tape it closed. I then wrap the entire carton 2-3 times in bubble wrap and tape it up. I get a box just a little bigger than the carton(Wal-mart for .97). I put crumpled up newspaper in the bottom of the box, put the carton on top and stuff paper all around the carton. I finish off with a sheet of bubble wrap on top and tape the box up. I have shipped around 9 dozen within the past month or so and to my knowledge, there has been only one broken egg. I pack it tight to try to immobilize the eggs which I hope will keep the air sac intact.

Melanie has a good success rate with me! She sent me a shipment of 8 eggs 5 days ago and each and every one is growing!!!!!! I would say thats totally awesome!!!!
I do it a little different though. I buble wrap each egg and then place shredded paper in the box nestle the eggs in the center and then lots more shredded paper on top. I may try melanies way next time. I think its better for the air cells. |

Hi All, Here is another option to the eight steps you will see at the picture trail link.
www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=7939567&uid=3314574 ![]() I Like the Clear Tri-fold egg Cartons and I cut big Squares of Cotton Batting, I wrap each egg then cut off the corners that stick out and place them in the Carton. I also punch air holes in the cartons with a paper punch AND I wrap the carton in the Bubble Wrap with the big holes. Melanie |

Since egg hatching season is upon us & this question is asked often & I have gotten a request to sticky this topic for future use. Feel free to add other hatching methods to this topic & any pics would be great.

And I can vouch for the way Jen packages her eggs. She tried an experiment with the last eggs she shipped me to see if her method kept the eggs where she placed them. Every egg arrived where it was set in the box, large end up. I had an excellent hatch result with that much care.

mostly a lurker here but I just wanted to pop in with a question for silkiesrus
I noticed in the photos of your completed shipping box you have a couple of different labels - both say Fragile and then some other stuff below that. Do you have a better pic of those you could post? They look really good and like something that will catch the eye of a postal worker. Did you make them yourself? Thanks! Angela in VA |

I am bumping this back up to the top, because I would also like to know what the labels say.

words on the labels | #13 | ||

I have about 4 different labels, They all say different things and they all have pictures of cracking eggs & chicks on them.
One reads REAL EGGS RRAGILE! in red. One reads Fragile Hatching eggs and in smaller words for the mail man to read is avoid HEAT - COLD - Shaking I have one sticker with a picture of a egg that reads LIVE EMBRIO |

does it matter if eggs are shipped with small end up? I just got 50 quail eggs and they all were shipped this way.

Just a little tip----I work for a major dollar store chain and we always have bubble wrap for free, it is used in our packaging. you would not have to pay for it again, if you found someone at a local store to save it for you on truck day. I get enough in 1 truck to package 3-4 large egg shipments and alot of times they are for the frames and such so they are like a small egg bag just put it in and seal one end.

I just thought I would add a note to this post. We recently bought a new sofa and the furniture store wrapped it in Bubble Wrap. Man I got lots of wrap for the eggs and it is heaver than the stuff I buy at the Post Office or Wally World. I am ready to go. If you know anyone who is buying a sofa you might ask about the bubble wrap. The store did not charge us anything for wrapping it.

Hi!
Here is yet another way to wrap eggs for shipping :) BubbleWrap comes off the roll in 12"x12" pieces. Cut in half for 2 6"x12" pieces. ![]() Fold over the ends to make a pocket and tape it. ![]() Place the egg in the pocket. ![]() Fold the sides (like you're wrapping a burrito). ![]() Wrap ![]() Wrap ![]() Tape it closed. ![]() Line the box with big bubble (5/16") BubbleWrap and place the eggs inside. Cover with another piece of big bubble Bubble wrap and fill corners and gaps (with whatever 'filler' you have handy) if it looks like it needs it. I've sent out lots of boxes packed this way and haven't had a report of a broken / cracked egg yet. (But if you did get a bad one, now's the time to speak up :) I haven't recieved any eggs packaged like this, but maybe it will help someone looking for a 'different' way. Lisa

I have the worse hatching addiction....eggbid loves me I have gotten eggs from DipsyDoodle 4-5 times and have yet to get a single broken egg. And on top of that I've had the best hatch rates with hers...highest of anyones. So whatever she says about shipping I would do in a heartbeat.

You know....I am going to post this here, but I'm also going to post somewhere else on this board to make sure that it's SEEN!!!!!
I cannot begin to tell you - how many shipments of eggs I've received over the last couple of years, and I have NEVER - and I mean N-E-V-E-R received a batch that didnt have at least 3-4 broken eggs. Until today. I received a batch of silkie eggs from Lisa (dipsy) and her packing/shipping method she pictured here ROCKS! I know that once I start shipping some eggs, I will ABSOLUTELY use this method. As I said, this was the first time EVER that I have received eggs 100% a-ok. Hope my hatch goes as well as the shipping did!!!!! Kristen, SAHM to

I've gotten eggs from 3 different people, using three different packaging styles & not a broken or cracked among them!!! I was really surprised, knowing how the PO takes care of other packages!! I've gotten packages from sellers on e-bay that look like they had been run over!!! But not with eggs, I guess!!!!
