As far as what to do with the fox after you catch him, if you can't kill it, and don't want to relocate and give the problem to someone else--you may just have to decide which you love most, the fox or your chickens, and go from there.

Thanks for posting this! Yesterday a.m. a red fox sauntered through my barn (on the way to the henhouse). Gutsy guy just looked at me like "So? What are you going to do about it?" Fortunately, he hasn't found a way to the chickens....yet. He may have a trap or .22 waiting for his next trip.

Very cool. Some may remember two seasons ago we trapped two Red tail in a live trap...kept the tails and heads, as Steph told us is refered to as the "mask and brush".....we have two more plaquing us this year...the best deterent besides trapping and killing them was our dog Shy who patroled at night. We lost her in February of this year to Perianal Fistulas....terrible condition. It took about 3 weeks for the foxes to come back....I've lost a duck and several chickens so far....it comes from 4:AM (when the dog barks) till at least 7:10 AM and probably later...the new dog is working so far but she is only 4 months and has been out constantly with the birds only three days and nights, now. (rabies shot had to be in place, and she's a bit small if two come round..) So we need to leg trap..D O W says we can apply for a leg hold here in CO... where to trap,Steph,in the Summer? This hay set looks great.....what about using that now on it's apparent path? We saw one blaze through the back fourty just this A.M arount 8:00...it's out there waiting....
