Sorry to hear you lost her. We're new to rabbits - just found this part of the board, but I've had sheep for years (decades actually). We just lost one of my daughter's ewes this winter to prolapse (she went vaginal - had the vet out, then she went rectal - she was determined to turn inside out). I've had 2 other ewes prolapse in the 30 years I've had sheep - and they were mother and daughter. Theories I've heard is that sometimes too rich of feed can cause it (not sure I go with that - my ewes have been the ones on pasture, not show condition or anything like that) and that it can be hereditary. That I'll buy. If you have mother or sisters to that one, I'd watch and see what happens. You may never have a problem again, but you might want to make note somewhere of her bloodlines in case you do - then you can see if it is connected. The genreral consensus with sheep is that if they prolapse (more than just pop it in and out occasionally), you might as well put them done - I've never heard of one recovering if they pop it out far and it stays out, even if they do seem to, they tend to do it again later. I guess you have to go case by case - and decide if what you want to try. I would doubt it's a common problem. My sister had rabbits when I was a kid, and don't remember her having any - but I did'nt pay much attention to them, either. Good luck! My daughter got us into Dutch last fall.
